A HOME ADAPTED TO YOUR FUTURE NEEDS

We take it as a personal challenge to design accessible houses where comfort is given the same priority as design. We believe that a real confortable house should have ample spaces, easy access and great luminosity and be built with the highest quality materials. And because we believe in what we do, we are having spectacular results in building houses where security and comfort can be felt when you walk through their rooms. In addition, since the houses are built in natural environments,we can see a wonderful scenery through the many great windows that invite the sun into our homes the whole year through.

"Accessible Barrier Free Homes" are adapted houses in which anyone could comfortably live in and where the facts of ageing, having children, or being physically handicapped would not convert daily chores into an obstacle race.

- Accessibility: there are not any steps inside the house. All the floors are at the same level, even those of the terraces around the house, the half covered porch and the garage’s floor. So that when the homeowner gets out of the car in the garage he/she is able to reach any room of the house easily. He/she will not have any problem even if she/he uses a wheelchair or pushes a baby buggy, a trolley, or a walker. There is just one inevitable step. This step that separates the terraces around the house from the garden, and which is perfectly fitted with ramps of low slope.

- Lighting system: all our houses are fitted with many switches located at strategic places. There are disposed at both ends of theof corridors; at the headboards; and next to doors. We always install electrical switches to turn on and off the lights from different places. All the switches are fitted with a warning light that make it possible to distinguish them inmediately in the dark. The switches are placed at one meter high from the floor, while the power points are located at 50 cm. from the floor. There are a great deal of them, and they are strategically distributed to avoid the use of extension leads.

- Doors: adecuate space is of paramount concern in doorways. All the doorways in our houses are 80 cm. wide. This will enable any person with mobility disabilities requiring the use of awheelchair and/or walker or crutches to get through without any problem. Also the doors we normally use are sliding doors.

- Corridors: corridors are wide and bright. Theirs minimum width is 0.9 meters and where turning around is required, a superior width of 1.5 meters is provided to allow any person in a wheelchair to have full access.

- Bedrooms: the rooms are 11 to 16 square meters and comefitted with built-in wardrobes. All of them have plenty natural light. Following our philosophy we have designed the rooms with a large space on both sides of the bed for maneuvering when using a wheelchair and being able to turn around and have full access to appliances and fixtures.

- Living room/dinning room: the living room is approximately 40 square meters. It leads directly tothe kitchen and to the main entrance hall. It also leads to the bedrooms and the bathrooms. Its large windows and sliding doors, looking south, permit the sunlight to get in nearly all day. Through these sliding doors we access to the covered porch, which thanks to the Mediterranean weather of this part of the country has a specially mild and wonderful microclimate which makes life in the countryside an authentic delight.

- Kitchen: it is about 20 square meters, wide enough to allow a wheelchair to be easily maneuvered in it. Its design which is highly functional offers you the opportunity of having your meals, doing the ironing or any homework comfortably in the large enlighten space facing the garden through its large window. There is a direct access from the kitchen into a large semicovered laundry room, with full ventilation and perfectly fitted-out.

All our kitchens are adapted to be equipped, if neccesary, with specially disigned furniture for people with any physical disability. Someting interesting to point out is the new techniques that Domotics is currently applying in order to make life easier for the people with disabilities. Domotics is the application of computer and robot technologies to domestic appliances.

- Bathrooms: they are approximately 6 square meters and aredesigned, as the rest of the house, to be totally accessible. The bathrooms have plenty of natural light and space. The bathrooms have a specially designed toilet seat to prevent shifting while sitting or transferring.

- Garage: all our houses have a garage for one or morecars. A low ramp of non slid material permits entering, so that the car is parked at the same level of the house. When we get off we are at the same level of the house, which permits usto get around the house and the terraces finding no barriers. We have to mention that garages are large so theycan alsobe used also as astoreroom.

- Isolation: to maintain the temperature of a house stable in a natural way is one of the greatest exponent of comfort. Our houses are isolated by a 19 cm. thick exterior sheet of light-weight clay blocks called "Thermoclay" tongued and grooved; and a internal sheet of a double hollow brick block. The thermic isolation is strenghtened by a polyurethane foam projected on the 4 cm. internal side of the building envelope chamber. These elements plus the double glazing windows-two 6mm. glasses separated by a 6mm. air chamber-provide the house with the optimum level of thermal and sound isolation. That´s is why our clients will be able to save energy and will not contaminate the surrounding nature.
